Microsoft Access

As a Microsoft employee at the time, I was involved with Microsoft Access all the way from pre‑release versions of the product up to the 2000 version.  My independent work with Microsoft Access has continued with the 2003 and 2007 versions.  I have developed (and managed the development Microsoft  of) large-scale applications based on Microsoft Access including stand-alone applications, shared database applications and synchronized central database systems all the way up to full client-server applications, using Microsoft SQL Server as the primary database repository.  Our systems for customers like the IRS had hundreds of simultaneous users.  One of our systems for Ford was credited with helping them save millions of dollars every year.

While Compuvision has done a wide variety of projects since 1978, most of our projects since 2006 have focused around manufacturing-related database systems, especially the PFEP Database that is critical for any serious Lean Manufacturing system for clients such as Atlas Copco, MTU Detroit Diesel and Diebold.  These systems have ben build on top of Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Excel.

Recently, for Atlas Copco, an international supplier of assembly line tools and components, we developed a multi-user Microsoft Access 2003 database application that calculated component pricing based on continuously changing designs, as well as continuously changing pricing and suppliers of parts.  This system then fed the current catalog of parts and components into a stand-alone Microsoft Excel 2003 order quoting system.  This system was commissioned by the North American division of Atlas Copco, but once it was implemented and demonstrated, Atlas Copco decided to roll it out worldwide.

One of our Microsoft Access applications is used by a numer of clients to compute the cost basis of stock sales by matching up random Buys, Sells, Splits and Mergers of stock and options over a ten year period.
